Wildlife Management - Mink Control

Wild mink control is an important issue for farmers, property owners, and conservationists.

Mink Control Experts

Effective wild mink control requires a multi-faceted approach that includes trapping, shooting, exclusion, habitat modification, and population reduction.

Ultimately, wild mink control is about finding a balance between protecting property, preserving native wildlife, and maintaining sustainable ecosystems. Landmark Wildlife Control offer professional and proper techniques to effectively manage wild mink populations while minimising negative impacts on the environment.

Mink control methods

Trapping

Trapping is one of the most effective methods of wild mink control, as it allows for the removal of individual animals without the use of harmful chemicals or poisons. As mink are an invasive pest they cannot be relocated and must be dispatched. The traps used to dispatch mink should only be set by professionals as they can be harmful to non target species and humans who may come across them. Catch alive traps can be used to remove mink from a property but the mink must be humanely dispatched.

Exclusion

Exclusion methods, such as fencing or barriers, can also be used to prevent mink from entering certain areas, such as fish ponds or chicken coops. Habitat modification, such as removing food sources or den sites, can also make an area less attractive to mink.

Shooting

Mink normally travel and hunt at night, at Landmark, we use cutting edge thermal imaging and night vision scopes fitted to high powered silenced rifles to carry covert culls of problem mink at night. Carrying out this work under the cover of darkness allows for a very effective reduction in mink numbers, with the general public being non the wiser to the activity.
